Early on Wednesday morning, Licht’s departure was initially reported by Puck News.
Shortly after, a series of severe missteps stained Licht’s “brief one-year tenure at the network, will depart the company,” according to CNN’s news website.
David Zaslav, CEO of parent company Warner Bros Discovery, informed staff members during the opening of the daily editorial call that “I met with Chris, and he will be leaving CNN,” according to CNN, who also noted that “Licht has not commented on his departure and he did not immediately respond to requests for comment.”
Zaslav announced the corporation would launch a thorough search for a new CEO in an email to colleagues, which Reuters obtained.
“This job was never going to be easy, especially during great disruption and transformation, and Chris poured his heart and soul into it,” Zaslav said.
