An Indian-origin nurse has been charged with negligence manslaughter over the seven-year-old boy James Dwerryhouse death at the UK’s biggest children’s hospital in 2016.
James Dwerryhouse died of a catastrophic brain injury in 2016. A year after James’ tragic passing, the victim’s family launched legal action against HCA Healthcare UK.
The victims’ family said James was full of life, cheeky, amusing, happy, and occasionally mischievous like all young boys, but he had health challenges and required a lot of health support in his childhood.

James Dwerryhouse died in August 2016. He had gone to a children’s private hospital for a colostomy bag operation. The operation was successful, but he lost his life due to the hospital staff’s negligence.
According to reports, James suffered catastrophic brain damage due to cardiac arrest after his breathing monitoring device was switched off for almost three hours.
He had several other health issues, including gastrointestinal problems (having to be fed through a tube), epilepsy, vision and hearing impairment. In addition, he suffered from sleep apnea, which may induce life-threatening stoppage in breathing.
According to James’ father, John Dwerryhouse, after a successful colostomy bag operation, he was energetic and playing with his Playmobil figures.
On the night of 25 August 2016, eight employees and agency employees were providing overnight care for six kids.
In an interview with The Guardian, the family’s legal representative, Hudgell lawyers, claimed that workers had since provided contradictory stories of what had happened.
According to the hospital’s serious incident report, a staff member removed James’ monitoring equipment at 1.15 am without consulting a more senior employee.
It has also been reported that staff members took night shift breaks that exceeded the length allowed by hospital regulations.
The investigation uncovered mistakes in the documentation of events, including a failure to note James’ observations throughout the night.
The audio alerts were allegedly turned off when the staff reconnected James’s monitoring equipment at 3.58 am. Uncertainty exists about how long it took the person to request assistance.

An Indian-origin nurse, Anuradha Bhupathiraju, 62-year-old, recently appeared in court. Bhupathiraju was accused of killing seven-year-old James Dwerryhouse at UK private children’s hospital.
Anuradha Bhupathiraju has been charged with gross negligence manslaughter over the young boy’s death.
Now, the nurse has been charged. Anuradha, who had over thirty years of experience, allegedly caused James’ death by turning his monitor off without a doctor’s permission.
Bhupathiraju appeared for a brief hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court and confirmed her name, address, and date of birth. The nurse was released on bail and will appear in Southwark Crown Court next month, reported Daily Mail.
