The Lagos State chapter of All Progressives Congress has refuted claims by PDP that Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s achievements in his first term in office were characterised by an increase in poverty and unemployment.
Recall, PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Hakeem Amode, in a statement on Tuesday, said that the party was surprised by the governor’s claim during his second term swearing-in ceremony that he had met residents’ expectations.
The party, describing Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda as a total failure, said the governor could not justify the huge amount of money spent as budgetary allocations in the last four years, compared to his predecessors.
The statement read that Sanwo-Olu’s proposed T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda for his second term shows that he has nothing to offer the people.
In a swift response, the APC Publicity Secretary, Mr Seye Oladejo, in a statement on Wednesday, revealed that residents of the state remained “proud of our achievements in public transportation, healthcare, education, the environment, job creation, tourism, security and safety, sports, youth and women development among others.”
Oladejo said: “Our attention has been drawn to the jaundiced remark of the former opposition party in Lagos State, PDP, as regards the achievements of Governor Sanwo-Olu in his first term in office.
“We would ordinarily have ignored the warped and obviously biased opinion of the party, but it is imperative to save them from the misery inflicted by their recent electoral defeats by putting things in perspective.
“There is no better response to this than the referendum that the last gubernatorial election in Lagos State represented the massive votes for Sanwo-Olu across the length and breadth of the state and across ethnic, religious and gender divides.
Oladejo stated that the THEMES mantra was an eloquent testimony to the glittering performance of the state government in all sectors
He said that PDP refused to acknowledge the state government’s achievements in checkmating the COVID-19 pandemic which literally saved the Nigerian nation.
He further mentioned that the completion of the various projects Sanwo-Olu inherited from his predecessors underscored his commitment to the prudent management of state resources.
The secretary added that the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus mantra for Sanwo-Olu’s second term was simply an agenda to complete what was started during the first term and take it to the next level.
He added that the T.H.E.M.E.S plus agenda was to further improve the fortunes of all Lagos residents through responsible and responsive governance.
“It should be more of a serious concern to the PDP that it has lost relevance by yielding its perpetual second position to a tottering party.
“The Sanwo-Olu administration will resist all childish attempts to distract it from its constitutional responsibilities and successfully cater for its teeming populace,” Oladejo said.
