Manager says emotional goodbye on Instagram amid claims Leeds United want him

Leeds United may now have a clear run at appointing manager Carlos Carvalhal after his Celta Vigo departure was confirmed.

Carlos Carvalhal is now without a club having departed Celta Vigo amid links with a move to Leeds United.

The Whites have parted ways with Sam Allardyce and must now find a new manager to guide them out of the Championship.

Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker are amongst the top rumoured targets whilst Daniel Farke is being linked too.

Then there is Carvalhal, who has been a slightly more left-field rumour.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon claimed last weekend that Carvalhal is on the Leeds United radar.

The Portuguese boss worked well in England before, guiding Sheffield Wednesday into the Championship playoff final back in 2016.

Carvalhal returned to Portugal and moved on to the United Arab Emirates before taking the Celta Vigo job.

Charged with the task of keeping Celta in La Liga, Carvalhal pulled off a final-day 2-1 win over Barcelona to avoid relegation.

Carlos Carvalhal now available amid Leeds United interest

That will now prove to be Carvalhal’s final game in charge of Celta.

Celta have confirmed that Carvalhal will be leaving the club despite helping them avoid relegation.

Celta published a statement this weekend, noting that they have ‘ended their contractual relationship’ with Carvalhal.

Carvalhal has now taken to Instagram to say goodbye, thanking the staff, players and fans at Celta.

Carvalhal noted that he used to travel from Braga to watch Celta Vigo games and he will be back in the stands to watch them in the future.

For now though, Carvalhal will be thinking about the next step in his career.

Interest from Leeds will be very appealing and his availability – which looked in some doubt last weekend – will have been noted by the Whites.
