As armed Bandits continue to unleash terror on communities across Niger state, the state police command has arrested a 45 years Mohammed Bande a.k.a Kachalla with N1.2million cash meant for the purchase of arms and ammunition.
The suspect was apprehended at Lambata town, Gurara local government area of the state on Wednesday while attempting to purchase AK-47 rifle and ammunition for his gang operation.
The police command in a statement in Minna on Friday by the public relation officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun said the suspect who is said to be a resident of Saminaka village of Lapai local government area of the state, was picked up by Men of the State Criminal Intelligent Department (SCID) following a credible intelligence.
According to Wasiu, the suspect confessed during interrogation that the money was given to him by one Gora of same village who is presently at large, to meet a yet-to-be-identified arms dealer at Lambata to procure AK-47 ammunitions.
The statement further added that the purpose of the intended procurement of arm and ammunitions was to boost their arms capacity for their kidnapping and cattle rustling activities around Saminaka, Lapai, Lambata and its environs.
The suspect further confessed that he was promised N250,000 as his commission for the transaction.
The police command however said “effort is on to apprehend the said Gora who is on the run, with a view to arrest others, as the suspect is under investigation in SCID Minna”.
Recalled that Lambata town and other adjourning communities in Gurara local government area are among the front line communities for gunmen attacks.
