Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has urged residents and citizens to restore their confidence in democracy, assuring that the nation is already moving in the right direction despite all challenges.
The governor encouraged them to join other Nigerians in reaffirming their belief in the system as the finest form of administration when he spoke on Monday.
While acknowledging that democracy may not have been able to address all of the issues the nation was facing, Uzodimma pointed out that many significant milestones had been reached since the return of democracy in 1999.
He expressed delight over the significant advancements made under democratic leadership, particularly after January 2020, in Imo State, for example.
Therefore, notwithstanding the flaws in the system, the governor urged Imo residents and citizens to recommit themselves to the fight to strengthen and sustain democracy.
He promised that democracy would always be the best form of governance since it is based on the freedom of association, assembly, and choice.
