Report: Arsenal have made ‘very strong financial offer’ to £165,000-a-week player

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have made an offer to Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, according to a report.
Sport have reported that Arsenal and Barcelona are interested in signing Ilkay Gundogan, who is out of contract at Manchester City at the end of the season.
The report in the Spanish publication has claimed that Arsenal have “made him a very strong financial offer” to the Germany international midfielder, who is £165,000 per week (SalarySport) as salary at City at the moment.
Premier League champions City are also keen on the 32-year-old staying at the Etihad Stadium.
However, according to Sport, the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder has decided to move to Barcelona.
Gundogan has been offered a three-year contract by Barcelona, with head coach Xavi having convinced him to move to Camp Nou, according to the report.
Ilkay Gundogan blow for Arsenal
In our view, Ilkay Gundogan was not going to move to Arsenal on a free transfer.
Yes, of course, Arsenal are a big club and are a global brand, and they really pushed Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.
However, Gundogan has been superb for City over the years, and we do not think that he will leave the Citizens for another club in the Premier League.
