Angus Kinnear is considering Steven Gerrard as a replacement for Sam Allardyce as Leeds United’s next manager. And the out-of-work coach is interested in taking over.
That is according to The Telegraph, which reports that Leeds chief executive Kinnear is now overseeing the Elland Road side’s hunt for a new head coach. The Whites fired Allardyce on Friday after the veteran gaffer could not prevent their relegation from the Premier League.
Leeds had brought Allardyce in as an emergency option in May with only four games left of the season. He replaced Javi Gracia at the helm with the club 17th in the table. But just one draw to three defeats would ensure the West Yorkshire side returned to the Championship.

Now, Leeds are assessing appointing Gerrard as their next manager to replace Allardyce for the 2023/24 Championship season. The Liverpool legend is still currently out of work after Aston Villa sacked him last October. He lasted one year at Villa Park after quitting Rangers.
But Gerrard is one of the names on Kinnear’s shortlist for Leeds’ potential next manager. It has fallen on the Whites’ chief executive to sound out Allardyce’s replacement after Leeds fired their director of football, Victor Orta. Leeds now have a selection of possible coaches.
Gerrard being readily available to take over from Allardyce is one aspect that likely works in his favour. The 43-year-old also won the Premiership title with Rangers in 2020/21. Sir Alex Ferguson also told The Guardian in 2021 that Gerrard did a ‘magnificent’ job while at Ibrox.
Gerrard is interested in replacing Allardyce at Elland Road
Now, having been out of work since Aston Villa fired him, Gerrard is interested in becoming the next manager of Leeds. It would only be his third job as a first-team head coach after a title-winning tenure with Rangers and his disappointing 11 months in charge of Aston Villa.
Gerrard took in 192 games at Ibrox from June 2018 to November 2021 and won 124 of the Gers’ matches. The Glasgow giants also drew 41 fixtures and scored 407 goals to their 139 conceded across all competitions. He left for a first crack at working in the Premier League.
Life at Villa Park started well for Gerrard with four wins in his first six games. But he would only win 13 times through his 40 fixtures at the Villans’ helm to eight draws and 19 losses before losing his job. Gerrard’s sides also conceded 52 goals to their 49 scored under him.
