Report: Manchester United now trying to stop ‘incredible’ midfielder from joining Manchester City

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are now trying to beat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to the signing of Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United are trying to win the race to the signature of Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic ahead of Manchester City.

Bayern Munich are also reportedly keen on the former Real Madrid midfielder, described as “incredible” by West Ham United and England international midfielder Declan Rice in February 2022.

City have yet to agree a deal with Chelsea over the 29-year-old, and United are trying to muscle in.

90min have reported that there is an agreement in principle between Kovavic and Premier League champions City.

Now, of course, for Chelsea, if the midfielder wants to leave, then they will sell him to the club that pays the most in transfer fees.

For Kovacic himself, a move to City could be more appealing than a switch to United.

Yes, United are arguably the biggest club in England, but City have just won the Premier League title once again and could clinch the UEFA Champions League as well this season.
