Report: Tottenham now likely to sign 24-year-old Arsenal allegedly considered ‘too expensive’
Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to sign Edmond Tapsoba and a deal for the Bayer Leverkusen defender is expected to materialise.
Edmond Tapsoba could be heading to Tottenham Hotspur this summer with an official approach expected soon.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Tottenham have now asked about signing Tapsoba.
It’s stated that Tottenham have admired Tapsoba for a long time now and he is eager to make the move to North London.
The report adds that a deal for Tapsoba is ‘likely’ to go through once Tottenham do make their approach for him.
Fabrizio Romano adds that Tapsoba is now ‘top of the list’ for Tottenham as they chase a new defender.
Everything seems to be moving in the right direction for Tottenham and their move for Tapsoba.
Edmond Tapsoba could be very expensive for Tottenham Hotspur
The player wants the move and Tottenham are ready to strike with talks imminent according to Romano.
However, the issue could be the asking price; Romano claimed earlier this week that Tapsoba was considered ‘too expensive’ for Arsenal.
The Gunners have instead turned their attention to Ajax defender Jurrien Timber, who is still expected to cost around £50million.
In that case, how much is Tapsoba going to cost?
The Sun suggested in May that Leverkusen could demand £60million for Tapsoba, which would be a staggering outlay for Spurs.
Tottenham have no Champions League football and no European football at all, so paying that kind of money would be very bold.
The Burkinabe defender would certainly make a big difference to Tottenham’s back line, but this move could take most of Ange Postecoglou’s summer budget away in one fell swoop.
When you factor in that Tottenham need a number of signings, especially a creative midfielder, paying so much for one player would be an interesting step for Tottenham in their attempting rebuild.
