The Last of Us season 2 cast members will include:
Pascal, the Chilean-American actor was born on the 2nd of April 1975 making him 48 years old. Pedro initially gained recognition playing Oberyn Martell in season 4 of Game of Thrones as well as his role as Javier Pena in Netflix’s series Narcos. The Last of Us season 1 has been extraordinarily successful, with Pedro portraying the character of Joel, the main protagonist.
Born on the 30th of September 2003, Bella is only 19 years old and has already attained a high level of success. Ramsey has thus far won the MTV Movie & TV Award for Best Duo for their exceptional performance in The Last of Us alone with their co-star, Pedro Pascal. Bella’s debut role in acting began when they appeared in Game of Thrones as the young noblewoman Lyanna Mormont.
Luna, born on the 5th of December 1982 and aged 40, is both an actor and a producer. Other than his role as Tommy in The Last of Us, he is also well-known for his performance in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D as Robbie Reyes.
Rutina is born on the 21st of December 1978 and graduated from Julliard. She is most recognized for her role as Tara Thornton on HBO’s True Blood as well as Nova Bordelon from the TV show Queen Sugar. Now, at the age of 44, she has also starred in The Last of Us as Maria.
Rumor: Shannon Berry could be playing Abby in The Last of Us Season 2
Fans of The Last of Us have been speculating for a long time that Shannon Berry, who starred in The Wilds, will be joining the cast as Abby Anderson in season 2. Without giving away too much for those who haven’t played The Last of Us Part 2, Abby is the daughter of Jerry Anderson, the head surgeon who worked for the Fireflies and was killed by Joel when rescuing Ellie from the hospital.
She is also the game’s most controversial character. What Abby does next in seeking redemption will be revealed in season 2 of The Last of Us.
Shanon Berry was born on July 27th, 1999; besides her role as Dot Campbell in Amazon Prime’s The Wilds, she has also appeared in the film Slant as the character Samantha in 2022.
New characters that could join The Last of Us Season 2
If HBO follows The Last of Us Part 2’s narrative, also Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin have stated they also will be exploring The Last of Us DLC, Left Behind, we could be in store for an explosive season 2 with the following characters:

When will The Last of Us season 2 come out? Release window explored
After the show’s huge international success, there was very little doubt that the show would be greenlit with a second season, and surely enough, season two was confirmed. However, a release date has not been released or teased as yet. With season 1 only just making its debut in January of this year, it is much “too early to tell” when the next season will be released, as explained to Deadline by Francesca Orsi, the head of drama at HBO but that a release window of 2025 looks to be on the cards
Orsi continued to say that due to the ongoing writer’s strike, this further explains the uncertainty surrounding season 2’s release window. She elaborated by stating “We were looking at The Last Of Us for some time in 2025… but there’s some question about the timing of the strike.”
“While everything at this moment is pencils down, I’m hopeful that we can come to terms sooner than later. Otherwise, we will have to assess what is the end of the 24 schedule, what are the shows that are going to be delivered for 2025. At this point, those shows that I’m looking to air wouldn’t necessarily be ready if this strike last six to nine months. So yes, that’s a big question for us, but I think we’ll cross that road once we come to it.”
How many episodes will be in The Last of Us season 2?
HBO’s hit series The Last of Us season 1 was a total of 9 episodes. Hence, it can be understood that season 2 should follow in its footsteps and hold a similar number of episodes.
As of now, only season 2 has been entirely confirmed which, theoretically means there may be only 2 seasons unless it is further extended after season 2’s release. In terms of the length of the episodes; it is not uncommon for producers of respective series to lengthen certain episodes, particularly the last episode where there is typically a big reveal.
The Last of Us season 1 recap
There is nothing stronger than an audience’s love for a hardened criminal who just happens to have a soft spot. Yes, we’re talking about Joel (Pedro Pascal). The season begins with Joel leading a good life with Sarah, his daughter. This is brought to a halt by the zombie apocalypse. As Joel and Sarah run away in the hopes of shelter from the chaos, they come across the army that is meant to protect them and offer them refuge but unfortunately, that didn’t turn out as it should. As the military seemingly does not want to take a risk with the infection spreading, they shoot Sarah in Joel’s arms and she sadly dies.
These are no regular zombies; these are due to a fungal infection that is transferred if one is bitten. Ellie (Bella Ramsey), is immune to the virus and has not ‘turned’ although she has been bitten. Throughout season 1 we find out that her immunity comes from her mother being infected when she gave birth to her. As the season progresses, Joel and Ellie develop a great love for each other and Joel later reveals that it was Ellie’s presence that allowed him to get through the pain of losing his daughter Sarah.
The Fireflies are an opposing force to FEDRA’s martial law and are led by Marlene, who is played by Merle Dandridge. After the Fireflies capture Joel and Ellie, Marlene tells Joel that because of Ellie’s immunity, they will be able to develop a cure for this disease. This is great news- but the catch is that this will kill her.
Joel cannot accept this as he already has lost a daughter and betrays the Fireflies to save Ellie. He shoots everyone in the hospital, including the doctors and, eventually, Marlene. After saving Ellie, he drives off with her and lies to her by telling her that the cure is not going to work.
However, Ellie suspects that he is not telling the truth so she asks him again and he repeats his answer which will change their entire relationship. The Last of Us season 1 ends with Ellie nodding her head in response to Joel’s answer as they are about to make their way to Tommy and Maria’s camp called Jackson.
The Last of Us season 2 plot
As The Last of Us is based on the video game, it would make sense that the second season would be based on the second video game as well. In The Last of Us Part 2, there is a time jump of 5 years later, where Ellie is 19 and living with Joel in Wyoming. The Fireflies have rebranded and are called the WLF (Washington Liberation Front) and their leader is Abby.
In an interview with GQ, creator Craig Mazin spoke of the finale of season one and the director’s (Ali Abbasi) creative experimentation. “He had this thought of just playing out this slightly longer, sadder version where Ellie says, ‘okay’, and then she turns and walks away.”
In The Last of Us Part 2, to everyone’s surprise, Joel is savagely murdered by Abby, the WLF militia leader as well as the daughter of one of the surgeons that Joel killed in the first season in his attack on the Fireflies at the hospital. Much of season 2 of The Last of Us will be driven by the introduction of Abby Anderson, her actions, consequences, and also Ellie’s revenge.
However, nothing has been revealed by HBO or the show’s creators just yet which truly makes us wonder whether Joel will be with us by the end of season 2. On the face of things, it isn’t looking too good!
Will Joel die in The Last of Us Season 2?
While it has not been specifically confirmed that Pascal will have to play the on-screen death of Joel, there have been speculations regarding his potential death as the TV show is an adaptation, after all. So yes, it’s highly likely that we will see Joel’s death, in whatever capacity that will arrive in, in season 2 of The Last of Us.
Pedro Pascal even commented on this topic when speaking to Esquire and commented that “it wouldn’t make sense to follow the first game so faithfully only to stray severely from the path.” Joel is an incredibly treasured character who is adored by fans; if the creators choose to go through with his death and be true to the show, it will most definitely be heartbreaking. We aren’t too sure that Pascal fans will be able to survive the horror of it!
Does The Last of Us season 2 have a trailer?
Unfortunately, there has been no trailer official released for season 2 of The Last of Us as of yet, which is expected, considering that the last episode of the first season only came out on the 12th of March 2023. However, as time passes, more information will inevitably be teased on The Last of Us’s official social media when the time comes.

Neil Druckmann also teased a rather suggestive Instagram post in March this year revealing that season 2 was on its way. The image showcased an arm holding a arm so if you have already played The Last of Us Part 2, you’ll know exactly who this arm belongs to and what it means!
