A video of TikTok star Icy Wyatt’s 2022 arrest has gone viral more than a year after the incident but he insists people ‘don’t know the backstory’.
The 24-year-old internet personality from California has more than 1.3 million followers and 44 million likes on TikTok where he posts trending content.
He began sharing videos in March 2020 and shot to fame. The star, whose full name is Wyatt Yeager, also has a YouTube channel and 500,000 Instagram followers.
Icy Wyatt arrested in 2022
In March 2022, the social media star was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police offer and one other person with a firearm, TMZ reports.
Court documents obtained by TMZ said the 23-year-old was driving erratically in Florida and stopped his car in the middle of the road.
Two people in another car asked him to move, and they then drove to a nearby Chick-Fil-A parking lot where an argument broke out.
Wyatt allegedly pulled out a gun and struck the back of the person’s head with it. He then drove off but police tracked his location.
He was caught by officers and arrested but resisted and kicked an officer in the thigh.
The star was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, one count of battery on an officer, and one count of resisting arrest.
Following the altercation, the internet star denied the charges on Twitter, writing: “Police in Broward County ambushed me in my neighborhood hours after I had called for help in road rage incident earlier in the day.”
“They didn’t send anyone to help me but came to my house hours later and help me at gun point. This is not okay,” he continued.
He also wrote: “I was the victim! This was in self-defence. The alleged assault on the officer was after I was already apprehended and will be dropped after I get the body cam footage.”
Video of the arrest goes viral
More than a year later, body cam footage of the altercation has been posted by a YouTube channel called EWU Bodycam and gone viral.
The footage, titled “TikTok Star Is Convinced That Laws Don’t Apply To Him,” shows officers responding to 911 calls about an incident in a Chick-Fil-A parking lot.
Witnesses explain what they saw and officers locate the TikTok star, who had made his own 911 call explaining his version of the events.
“I had four guys jump out the car and say ‘we’re going to beat the f*** out of you and stuff,” he said. “They didn’t hurt me because I have a gun.”
The video then reveals police pinning Wyatt to the ground and arresting him. It also shows a witness video of the star’s erratic driving.
It adds that he is expected to appear in court in July 2023. This comes as rapper Boosie Badazz has just been arrested outside a San Diego courtroom after a hearing relating to a previous gun case.
Star says people ‘don’t know the backstory’
Icy took to TikTok to respond to the video, saying he had wanted to release the footage on his own after his lawyer gave it to him.
“I was going to show you guys at some point, but I just wasn’t ready to show you,” he said. However, the YouTube channel released it first.
“People are just saying like the nastiest things without knowing the backstory of it all and I know my real fans know my backstory,” he added.
