Tina Kelly was murdered: Galveston County woman’s family mourns over jailing of suspect Raymond Borden

Gilchrist, TX (KTRK) – Friends and family remember a Galveston County woman for the joy she brought to the lives of others after she was murdered in her home nearly 10 days ago.

Deputies from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) found Tina Kelly’s body with multiple gunshot wounds at approximately 4:40 p.m. Thursday during a welfare check at her home, located near Head Hunter Drive and State Highway 87 in Gilchrist.

Kylie’s daughter, Tyler Point, said, “It sickens me to my core. I wouldn’t be my full self without my mom.”

The man accused of her murder, Raymond Borden, was in police custody at the time of his discovery. He was arrested four days earlier, at approximately 2:20 am, on charges of driving while intoxicated and avoiding arrest in a vehicle.

Investigators said the pickup truck he was driving belonged to Kelly, and the gun he was accused of using was inside. He is currently being held in the Galveston County Jail for murder on a $250,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 2.

“I’m so glad that in the circumstances God (Borden) caught him the very night he did this. No one knew he did it, but he never got away. He never had time. He never had a chance to get ‘away’.” Point he said. He shouldn’t be able to get out.

Point said Borden was a man Kelly was casually seeing rather than her boyfriend, the GCSO said in its press release. I just spoke to ABC13 Wednesday via a FaceTime call from Glen Rose, where she currently lives.

She explains that they all once lived on the Bolivar Peninsula when she was a child but moved to Glen Rose and lived there for 17 years. When Kelly’s three children became old enough and started their own families, she made the decision to move back to Gilchrist on her own with plans to eventually retire there.

Point shared her mother was very outgoing, the life of the party, and loves to cook. But what people will always remember is her big heart.

Point said, “My mother helped raise children who had no fathers, children who needed a place to sleep, eat, and rest. She took everyone in as if they were her own family.”

Robert Peralez, who worked with Kelly at Jose’s Cantina in Crystal Beach, said their entire team was devastated by her death. She had been working there for six months and was a regular customer before becoming an employee.

He said, “Tina was a very cheerful young lady and a very lucky one. She always had a smile on her face. Always happy to be around people. Always a compliment from people. It’s such a joy to be there with everyone around her.” “How could this have happened to someone who was such a wonderful person? It was so difficult for everyone and so hard to deal with. Some of our co-workers would walk by and break down in tears. She has become part of our family and is so deeply rooted in us. Everyone here says “I love you” to each other before we go home because I think in this world, we take things for granted.”

Point knows nothing can bring her mother back, but she said she is counting on the justice system to bring some peace to her family.

She said, “Whoever does something sick and evil does not deserve to be taken out. That should not be an option. I pray that justice is done.” “I hope he knows what kind of woman he took from this world.”

Kelly’s Celebration of Life will be held at Glen Rose. Their families receive donations via the Cash App ($taysequoia) and Venmo (@Tayler-Sequoia) to help with funeral expenses.

“We’re going to put up a memorial to her right on the beach, so we can visit her all the time. She’s definitely going to be a brand in our lives. I don’t know how life goes from here. But,” Point said.
