Julien Laurens thinks Brentford goalkeeper David Raya would be a ‘perfect’ signing for new Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou.
But the European football expert questioned how Tottenham, without a sporting director, will conclude such a transfer that could cost ‘£40 million’, as he told ESPN.
Tottenham are looking for a new number one with Hugo Lloris set to depart the club this summer and Laurens feels David Raya is exactly what Postercoglou is looking for.
Given that Raya is Brentford’s main guy in between the sticks, then it’s not going to be that easy prizing him away from Thomas Frank’s grasp.
It also needs to be noted that Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are also keen on the Spanish keeper, so given that they are in the Champions League, then it does put Spurs on the back foot.
If you add in the fact that Postecoglou has just arrived and there is no one running the club’s transfer ship from an official capacity, then it does make life even more difficult for the club to do business.
“When you don’t have a sporting director, and Daniel Levy is always involved I guess in all those transfer businesses,” said Laurens.
“But still, it’s difficult, so that adds a layer on top of who we are going to get, with what money, where, and which position is the priority?
“Raya in goal, for example, great idea. He fits perfectly what Postecoglou would want from a goalkeeper. Much better than Joe Hart. But it’s £40 million, which is a lot of money.”

What is eye-catching about Raya is his ability to play out from the back and open up the opposition with his decision-making, pass selection and quality of pass.
For Manchester United and Tottenham, added with his shot-stopping ability, that’s needed right now.
Not forgetting that he is only 27, so he still has years and years left in his locker and he will get better.
