Fuel subsidy removal a national issue, affects everybody – Alia

Governor of Benue state Hycinth Alia Wednesday said the hardship experienced as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy has affected everybody in the country irrespective of their  positions in the society.

The governor spoke when he received the protesting members of the organised labour at the Government House in Makurdi the Benue state capital.

Governor Alia who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Paul Biam, said he was aware of the present realities occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.

He commended the organised labour in Benue state over the peaceful conduct of the protest, saying he would convey the message of the protesters to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and reason with him on how to ease the problem.

“I commend the orderly conduct you have exhibited in the course of your protest. I also commend your kind disposition towards our government.

“The situation we are experiencing is a  national issue. 

“The governor has request me to tell you that he understands realities of the removal of the fuel subsidy on the people. 

“We are together in this, the governor buy fuel, the Chief of staff buy fuel, so we know what you are going through. It is a national issue and the situation has affected everybody.

“I assure you that the message will be taken to the president,” he added. 

Earlier, chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC Benue Council Comrade Terungwa Igbe lamented the hike in cost of goods occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.

He said the salaries workers take home was not enough to transport them to work in the current situation talkless of fending for other needs.
