‘Suck Your Pregnant Wife’s Breasts’ – Expert Advises Husbands on World Breastfeeding Week

Mrs. Peace Essien, a health expert, has advised husbands to always suck their pregnant wives’ breasts to open the nipple pores in preparation for the birth of the new child.

This was said on Tuesday during an interview in Essien’s office to commemorate the 2023

, themed “Enabling Breastfeeding: Making a Difference for Working Parents.” Essien is the coordinator of the Primary Health Care Operational Base, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State.

She claimed that in addition to providing emotional and material support, husbands of expectant women have duties prior to or during the early stages of pregnancy.

“Husbands are encouraged to suck the breasts of their pregnant wives to get the pores of the nipples ready for the baby to feed. Alternatively, if the husband does not suck, he should use fingers on the nipples to make it open,” she said.

Essien noted that effective breastfeeding will make the baby grow well, both physically and mentally.

“Breastfeeding stimulates the brain; the nutrients in it boost the immune system and enhance the growth of other parts of the body in a baby,” she stated.

Mothers, too, she stressed, also benefit from exclusive breastfeeding.

“It makes the body return to its shape. It serves as another method of family planning for some mothers as it guides against immediate pregnancy and increases bonding with the baby,” she said.

She urged communities, families, and religious leaders to support new moms in their decision to breastfeed their infants exclusively for the first six months.

Additionally, she urged female religious and community leaders to emphasise the importance of exclusive breastfeeding.
