Curtis Davies says West Ham United transfer target and Manchester United star Harry Maguire is a ‘master of his craft’ alongside Liverpool’s Andy Robertson.
Whilst the duo might now be playing for two of England’s biggest rivals – Manchester United and Liverpool – at one point, they were teammates.
That was at Hull City in the Premier League, as Curtis Davies, who watched them come through and played alongside them, lauded the two defensive stars on Instagram.
That road at Hull led Andy Robertson straight to Liverpool where the all-action and hard-hitting left-back has since won the lot, including a European Cup winner and a Premier League winner.
As for Harry Maguire, he joined Leicester City before making his big-money transfer to Old Trafford, but it hasn’t worked out for the 30-year-old, with suggestions that West Ham now want to take him on board this summer – a first offer of £20 million has been rejected.
As Davies wrote below in the comments section of Hull City’s Instagram post, that ‘student’ once upon a time has come a long, long way.
“The two students that became masters of their craft,” wrote Davies.
The student then master now in decline
Maguire’s rise to the top end of the Premier League and joining Manchester United was deserved after a number of strong performances for Leicester City.
But he can’t deny that, for a while now, his game is on the decline and he was rightfully stripped of the captain’s armband this summer.
Maguire does need to drop a level, but is West Ham the answer for him? And is he the answer for West Ham? You could argue ‘no’ on both counts because David Moyes needs a player on the up and on the rise, not someone that needs picking up himself.
