Concerned elders from Rivers State on Thursday took a wipe at the renowned Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Ahmad, for reportedly calling the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) a Christian infidel over his appointment as the minister in charge of the FCT.
Recall that a statement was reportedly credited to Gunmi saying that it was wrong for a Christian infidel to be appointed as minister of the FCT, and called for his sack.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the Convener of the Concerned Elites of Rivers State, Chief Tony C. Okocha, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was at liberty to appoint any Nigerian to any office without consideration for tribe or religion.
To this end, they alleged that Gunmi is a die-hard supporter of the Presidential Candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, saying that he holds Tinubu’s administration in utter derision, thus his hatred for Wike.
They described his vituperations against Wike as treasonable, and an affront to Nigeria, saying that his call for his sack was maliciously orchestrated.
“These incisive vituperarations of Gumi as spread by his adherents and ilk (is) an affront on our one nation-hood and so, we conclude that it is treasonable. The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is at liberty to appoint any Nigeria to any office without consideration for tribe or religion.
“H/E Chief Nyesom Wike is fit to and proper to be appointed as minister of the FCT and having not been found guilty of any infraction whatsoever, but rather works in tandem with the mission assigned to him within the ambits of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and as the appointor, Mr. President remains unshakable. Any call for his sack is therefore maliciously orchestrated, and so, cannot hold waters.
“Sheikh Gumi being an ardent northern chauvinist/jingoist and die-hard supporter of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, (PDP candidate, 2023 elections), holds President Tinubu’s administration in utter derision and can only pander to tissues of lies and unconstructive criticisms “ex nihilo”. The same could be concluded as a reason for his morbid hatred for the Hon. Minister of FCT, H/E Chief Nyesom Wike”, they said.
