Delta State Government Initiates Talks with Shell for Return to Warri

The Delta State Government has taken significant steps towards the return of the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to Warri, a move that could potentially bring back economic and industrial activities to the region. SPDC had relocated its western operational headquarters from Warri over a decade ago, citing insecurity in the area.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has been instrumental in this initiative, and recently, he sealed a N78 billion contract for the construction of three flyover bridges, cloverleaf, and road expansion projects in Warri and Effurun in partnership with construction giant Julius Berger.

The Commissioner for Oil and Gas in Delta State, Chief Vincent Oyibode, led a government delegation to engage in preliminary discussions with SPDC. It was revealed that SPDC has expressed its willingness to bring back some of its departments to Warri. Further formal discussions between the SPDC team and Governor Oborevwori are expected to take place to finalize the agreement on the company’s return to the state.
