The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed his administration’s eagerness to collaborate with the State of Israel on agricultural initiatives and enhancing security in Nigeria’s capital.
This announcement came during a courtesy visit to the minister’s office in Abuja by the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Michael Freeman.
Wike emphasized that the FCT boasts a favorable climate for agriculture and revealed plans to establish farms in the territory, providing employment opportunities for young people.
He assured the Israeli ambassador of the FCT Administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for investors to conduct legitimate businesses within the capital.
Regarding security, Wike acknowledged that, like other major cities globally, the FCT faces security challenges. However, he expressed the FCT’s openness to collaborating with Israel to address these challenges and improve overall security.

Wike stated, “Yes, we have had one or two setbacks in terms of security threats, but like you know, security issues are everywhere, and we are working very hard to see that we nip in the bud, anything that will give us any negative publicity. You know all over the world, nobody can say you can have one hundred percent security; you know it’s not possible. But we will try as much as we can, anywhere we can collaborate and work together to help us reduce some level of insecurity in the city. But be assured that we are willing to work.”
The minister also addressed recent publications listing embassies, high commissions, and government organizations that are in default of ground rent payments. He clarified that these actions were not targeted at anyone but aimed to boost internally generated revenue in the FCT to support developmental needs.
In response, Ambassador Freeman assured the FCT Administration of the Israeli embassy’s commitment to complying with local rules and regulations. He also shared information about an ongoing capacity-building project aimed at young Nigerian entrepreneurs and innovators from various regions of the country. The project involves a six-month program based in Abuja, providing training, mentorship, and funding opportunities to foster entrepreneurship and job creation.
