The Chairman of the Association of Corporate Treasurers of Nigeria, Adeyinka Ugunnubi has said that modern-day corporate treasury is at the heart of firms’ financial resilience and organisational success.
He stated this on Thursday during the association’s Treasury360 Conference and Exhibition in Lagos.
“We are at a pivotal moment where the roles of treasurers are being redefined by various challenges in a fast-paced technology-driven dispensation,” he noted.
According to Ugunnubi, in today’s global economy, treasurers are entrusted with the vital task of navigating a complex web of financial risks and opportunities.
He urged corporate treasurers to anticipate and adapt to economic shifts, geopolitical developments, regulatory changes and technological advancements, while maintaining liquidity, optimising cash flow and ensuring compliance.
He said, “Our theme, ‘What Lies Ahead’, is not just a question. It is a call to action, an invitation to explore, adapt and lead in a landscape of constant change.
“The corporate treasury function, once viewed as a support function, has risen to become a strategic powerhouse that drives financial resilience and organisational success.”
In his keynote address, the co-founder of Ceviant, Denis O’Brien, said that the management of resources is the lifeblood of any enterprise.
He mentioned that tools for effective treasury management should be available to treasurers at all levels.
He further stated that blockchain technology had the potential to revolutionise treasury management.
Also, the Executive Director of Corporate and Investment Banking at Access Bank, Iyabo Okunsanya, said that the treasury function had over the years evolved from being a back-office function to becoming a pivotal player in strategic business decisions in any organisation.
