Development partners, in collaboration with the Zamfara State government, have concluded arrangements for the distribution of 3.2 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets in the state.

This was disclosed on Tuesday by Faruk Mohammed Lawal, a development partner at “Breakthrough Action Nigeria,” who led a team of malaria advocacy, communication, and social mobilisation committees that paid a courtesy visit to members of the correspondent chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Zamfara State Council.

He explained that the current campaign against malaria was for the third time in the state to eradicate the menace.

According to him, during this period, a total of 3.2 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets were to be distributed across the local government areas of the state.

“We are trying to eradicate the menace of malaria, and to reduce the risk of malaria, we must use treated nets to prevent mosquito bites”. He said.

He further revealed that Zamfara is among the states with a high prevalence rate of malaria.

Also speaking, Linda Osaji from Breakthrough Action Nigeria said 12,000 ad hoc staff were recruited for the net card distribution across the state.

“The cards would be used to get access to the treated mosquito net, which would start on December 1st.”

She called on people to use the nets for their intended purpose; they were not to be used for fishing. Use it to cover yourself from mosquito bites that cause malaria”. She advised.

Earlier on, the chairman of the subcommittee, who doubles as a state health educator, Kabiru Danja Kurya, explained that journalists in the state are strong partners as far as health issues are concerned.

“Without the support of journalists, the state wouldn’t have achieved what it achieved in various health sectors in the state”.

Responding, the Chairman of NUJ, correspondent Chapel in Zamfara State, Sani Haruna Dutsinma, assured the committee of journalists’ support when the need arose.
