Subsidy: Nigerians deserve good governance – NNPP Chieftain

A Chieftain of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has declared that Nigerians need good governance as dividends of democracy.

Ambassador Ajadi said this in Ibadan on Tuesday while speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Press Week of the Oyo NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel held in Ibadan.

He disclosed that Nigerians deserved better dividends of democracy, particularly, during this present economic hardship, saying

Nigerian citizens have not been enjoying dividends of democracy from its leaders who are only concern with their own personal gains at the expense of majority of Nigerians.

He stressed that there was no basis for government to be thinking that the solution to cushion effect of removal of fuel subsidy is to share money, adding that  the money should be channelled towards the growth and progress of the nation.

“Nigerians don’t expect money from the government, what they need is good governance, good road network, stable electricity, let begin to enjoy dividends of democracy by giving Nigerian monthly allowance as a citizen of Nigerian”, he said

Ambassador Ajadi added, “There is no transparency and clarity in activities of the government, for genuine transparency, let all names of beneficiaries from the palliatives be publish on newspaper with their account number before the palliatives is disbursed.”

The NNPP Chieftain pointed out that there is no way government can identify the poorest of the poor the palliatives is actually meant for without the money been diverted to politicians account.

He then tasked journalists to abide by the ethics of the profession as  their efforts towards nation building can not be over-emphasised.
