A hajj monitoring group in Plateau state has faulted the workings of an ad-hoc committee, investigating past activities of the state pilgrims board of bias and unfairness.
The group under the aegis of Hajj Monitoring Group, made its position known in a press release signed by its chairman, Alhaji Dan’asabe Muhammad, and Secretary Alhaji Yakubu Ajang.
It said from the onset, the committee’s chairman, Abubakar Yahaya Kanam, has shown bias even before the committee commenced work.
The group said though it wellcomed the setting up of the committee, but wondered why only the Muslim board, was singled out for investigation, just as it alleged political undertone in the committee’s activities.
“As a concern hajj monitoring group; we welcome the idea of the committee, in the first instance, thinking it is aimed at distilling the truth and to let the public be aware of it, but we are concern that only the Muslim Pilgrims board was singled out for investigation with glaring political undertone and we are concern that the State Government is tilted towards politicising the pilgrims board.
“We have keenly watched the inauguration of the committee, and also have sensed the utter bias of the committee that is likely to witch hunt, rather than discharge it’s duties fairly and squarely,” the group said.
According to it, “the body language and utterances of the committee’s chairman, Abubakar Yahaya Kanam, as indicative of the facts that the committee is already acting a script at tarnishing the image of the immediate past Executive Secretary of the Pilgrim Board, even without fair hearing.”
The group said, the uncommon feat of prudent utilisations of the board funds, incorruptible feat of Barr. Auwal Abdullahi, remain indelible.
“Our expectation of the committee, is to settle down, commence investigation and of course invite all officers involved in running the affairs of the board, and also possibly invites even concerns groups to make their revelations, but as stated thereof; the committee through its Chairman, had passed an unbalance and bias judgement, attempting at indicting the former Executive Secretary of the board, whereas; no evidence has been adduced to that effect,” it said.
The group also alleged that the Secretary of the committee Barr. Awwal Haruna (alias King Malu) has been at the forefront of vilifying the former Executive Secretary, from his utterances and body language, as he harbors a deep rooted hatred and resentment for the Ex- ES for reasons best known to him.
“In the light of the foregone, it is our firm conviction that, the committee has already failed in the discharge of it’s duties right from inception.
“We therefore, call on Governor Caleb Mutfwang, to dissolve the entire committee, for it cannot dispense justice at the end of its exercise,” the group urged.
