BREAKING: Augustine Eguavoen Named Interim Head Coach Of Super Eagles—–Former Nigerian international, Augustine Eguavoen, has been named the interim head coach of the Super Eagles following the expiration of Jose Peseiro’s contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Eguavoen, the technical director of NFF will be assisted by Finidi George, who also worked with Peseiro.

Peseiro, who guided the Super Eagles to second place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations concluded in Cote d’Ivoire on February 11, officially announced and detailed the expiration of his contract with the NFF.

The Portuguese renewed his contract in September 2023, and it was scheduled to expire in February 2024 with the target of getting the Super Eagles to at least the semi-final of the 2023 AFCON.

He was initially rumoured to be on the radar of Algeria, but it turned out that he was never considered for the Desert Foxes job as the North Africa Nations announced their engagement of former Switzerland coach Vladimir Petkovic for 2026 World Cup qualifying on Thursday.

Eguavoen, who has served the country as coach at various international levels, last coached the Super Eagles at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where the team lost to Tunisia in the Round of 16.
