THE Chairman, Senate adhoc committee investigating the Turnaround Maintenance of Nigeria’s Refineries, Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, has revealed that the Port Harcourt refinery is about 90% completed and is expected to be operational before the end of the year.
This update comes after the federal government missed the February 2024 deadline for the refinery’s operation.
Senator Ubah shared this information, during a visit to Governor Similanayi Fubara of Rivers State at Government House in Port Harcourt, emphasizing the significant progress made at the refinery while also expressing confidence in its commencement of operations by the end of the year.
Senator Ubah mentioned that the committee had inspected the Warri Refinery earlier in the week before coming to Port Harcourt to evaluate the progress and readiness of both the old and new Port Harcourt refineries for resuming operations.
Governor Fubara aligning his administration’s goals with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasized that the construction of the Woji-Aleto-Alesa-Refinery Road is to facilitate easy access to the Port Harcourt Refinery and alleviate traffic on the East-West Road.
He also highlighted the importance of governance in improving the lives of the people and expressed optimism that the Senate Committee’s efforts would lead to positive outcomes for Nigerians.
Furthermore, Governor Fubara highlighted the benefits that would arise from the refinery’s revival, including increased availability of petroleum products locally, reduced dependence on imports, economic growth, higher revenue generation, and the execution of more projects in Rivers State.
He reiterated his commitment to delivering for the people and emphasized the importance of impactful governance.
