This fantastic Star Wars cosplay celebrates the menacing power of former Sith assassin Asajj Ventress, one of the franchise’s most complex characters. Though Asajj Ventress had previously appeared in Star Wars Legends comics and Genndy Tartakovsky’s 2D animated version of The Clone Wars, in which she fought an intricate battle with the one and only Anakin Skywalker, the character was later confirmed in canon when she was introduced in the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie. Soon, Ventress became a staple of The Clone Wars series, fighting for and against Count Dooku, the Jedi, and, most importantly, herself.

Asajj Ventress is one of Star Wars’ most multifaceted characters. Though she began her canon Star Wars journey as a Sith assassin, working under Count Dooku, she soon realized that he would replace her in a heartbeat, casting her aside as though she was worthless. She witnessed the destruction of her homeworld, Dathomir, at the hands of Count Dooku and General Grievous, too, her guilt driving her forward forevermore. She eventually even tries to help the Jedi kill Dooku, as told in the novel Star Wars: Dark Disciple by Christie Golden, during which she even falls in love with a Jedi known as Quinlan Vos.
Now, in Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Asajj has become a bounty hunter, one who’s still cautious but less ruthless than she was before. Her journey throughout the franchise has been one of darkness, heartache, power, love, grief, death, and anger, but underneath all that strength and venom, Asajj has always been conflicted at heart. She’s tried to fit in everywhere – with the Jedi, with the Sith, and with the Nightsisters, and now, it seems, she’s found comfort in flying solo, scouring the galaxy for work as a bounty hunter. Asajj Ventress has been many things throughout Star Wars, but truly settled has never been one of them.
