West Ham 1-1 draw leaves Tottenham outside of top 4

Aston Villa is now two points clear from the fifth place in the Premier League

Tottenham missed out on the opportunity to secure a spot in the Premier League’s top four after being held to a draw by West Ham at a rainy London Stadium.

Brennan Johnson’s close-range tap-in gave Spurs an early lead just five minutes into the game, but their advantage was short-lived as Kurt Zouma headed in from a corner to equalize for West Ham.

Despite both teams showing effort throughout the match, neither managed to find a breakthrough, leaving Spurs frustrated. The result keeps Ange Postecoglou’s side two points behind Aston Villa in fourth place.

West Ham remains in seventh position, as both Newcastle and Wolves were unable to secure victories to leapfrog David Moyes’ team in the race for a Europa Conference League qualification spot.

Tottenham took the lead when Johnson capitalized on a low cross from Timo Werner, who found space behind West Ham’s defense. However, West Ham quickly responded, utilizing their strategy of delivering threatening corners, leading to Zouma’s equalizing header from close range.

In the second half, the hosts had the closest opportunity to clinch the win, but Michail Antonio’s shot was saved by Spurs goalkeeper Gigi Vicario after Antonio powered past Micky van de Ven to create a one-on-one chance.
