APC directs Rivers Assembly to commence process to impeach Fubara

The Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has directed the State House of Assembly led by Martins Amaewhule to immediately commence the impeachment process of the State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara.

The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, Mr. Tony Okocha, warned that his party will invoke constitutional process against the lawmakers if they fail to do so.

Okocha who gave the directive while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, said, the decision followed the remarks by Governor Fubara that President Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention in the crisis rocking the state was a mere political solution.

Fubara had on Monday during a courtesy visit by the Bayelsa State delegation of political and traditional leaders, led by former governor of the State, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, at Government House in Port Harcourt stated that the state assembly does not exist.

The Governor explained that he had acted like the big brother in the crisis, not interested in destroying the ‘house’ to pave the way for meaningful development while securing a tenable political relationship.

But Okocha said, Fubara by his comments has rewritten political history.

“We hereby direct the State House of Assembly to immediately commence impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, if they fail to do so,we will invoke constitutional processes against them,” Okocha said.
