Biafra Day Celebration: Banks, Shops, Schools, Shut Over Fear Of Attack By IPOB Members

Shops, streets, markets, shops, and roads have amongst others were on Thursday deserted in Owerri the Imo State capital as residents observed the sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and it’s militia group, Eastern Security (Network ESN).

THE WHISTLER observed that the busy major roads like, Okigwe road, Wetheral road, Douglas road were all deserted as at the time of 1pm on Thursday.

Heavily armed security personnel in armoured vehicles were seen around major flash points in the city.

IPOB had declared a total sit-at-home order across the five eastern states of Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo as the group marks the remembrance of the declaration of the defunct state of Biafra by late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu on May 30, 1967.
