Ghosts showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman have teased how the season 3 cliffhanger ending is going to be built upon in season 4. The duo have been at the helm of the hit CBS sitcom since it first aired back on October 7, 2021, and to date the show has run three seasons and 50 episodes, to critical acclaim. The show just concluded with its season 3 finale, which has set up storylines and plot points that can be explored in more detail in Ghosts season 4.

In an interview with TV Line, Port and Wiseman discussed the cliffhanger ending that season 3 brought, and how this can be expanded upon in season 4. The Ghosts season 3 finale was packed full of drama, but the main revelation focused on Isaac calling off his wedding to Nigel, then being pulled into the dirt by puritanical ghost Patience. The pair reflected on the ending, with Port sharing a little about Patience, and what audiences can expect from a season 4 continuation. Check out his comments below:

Is there anything you can share about what she’s like besides being this ominous figure and what her mission is here?

PORT |
As described, she’s a Puritan woman, and she’s pissed off, to start, because she has an axe to grind, obviously, with Isaac, who she’s taken hostage now. That’s going to be the first order of business to open [Season 4] is, first of all, everyone has to find out that he’s missing, which they soon will, and then they have to get Isaac back.

What Will Happen In Ghosts Season 4 & How Will It Impact The Show’s Success?

Ghosts season 4 will have a number of plot threads from season 3 to explore and tie up, including what happened to Isaac, why Pete started to disappear the longer he was away from the mansion, Thor and Flower’s new commitment to one another, and Carol and Baxter’s impending nuptials. There’s a lot to unpack from the finale, but from Port’s comments, it is likely the Isaac storyline will take center stage, and the focus will be on the other characters realizing he’s missing, and attempting to get him back.

The success of Ghosts to date has been built on the foundations of a quirky and unique show, full of interesting characters, that gives the audience satisfying conclusions to weighty storylines and arcs. In order to ensure there is not a quality dip for season 4, Ghosts will need to handle the Isaac situation cleverly, not concluding the storyline in the first episode, but not letting it drag out for too long that it frustrates viewers.

Ghosts season 3 did a fantastic job of solving its two major Hetty problems in a satisfying way that fit in with the narrative of the show, and felt true to the character, and the hope will be that they can do the same for Isaac. How many more seasons Ghosts might run for is anyone’s guess at this stage, but the show has posted consistently high ratings, which bodes well for the upcoming fourth season, and it would come as no surprise if the show were renewed for further seasons.
