NMA commends Gov Otu’s urban renewal efforts

As a demonstration of cooperation and dedication to the progress of healthcare, the national leadership of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), led Dr Uche Ujinmah, has recently paid a courtesy visit to Governor Bassey Otu at his temporary office in Calabar.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Ujinmah praised Governor Otu for his commitment to urban renewal, emphasizing the interconnectedness between aesthetics and health. In his remarks, Dr. Ujinmah noted the positive feedback he received from the state chapter regarding their cooperation. He commended the governor for his fellowship.

According to him, a new welfare scheme needed to be implemented to attract and retain medical professionals in the state and to increase the number of doctors in the state’s service.

In his response, the Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Otu expressed his gratitude for the NMA’s decision to convene in the state. “Your sector is delicate, and the government must pay attention,” he stated, emphasizing the significance of prioritizing the well-being of the state’s residents.

Assuring the medical personnel that the government is committed to addressing healthcare challenges, Governor Otu acknowledged the sacrifices made. He emphasized the importance of retaining and attracting medical professionals, pledging competitive salaries and prioritizing health funding.

Furthermore, Governor Otu unveiled plans to leverage technology, including a partnership with ZIPLINE company, to enhance medical logistics and service delivery.

He praised those who had chosen to contribute to Nigeria’s development and expressed his confidence in the ability of the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of the Federal Government to transform Nigeria in the long run.

He maintained that President Bola Tinubu was making difficult decisions and noted that today’s sacrifices would lead to positive outcomes.

During the courtesy visit, Ujimba and Governor Otu exchanged plaques, symbolizing their mutual appreciation and commitment to strengthening the NMA-state government relationship.
