RIVERS: Seven kidnapped by suspected pirates
SEVEN marine tourists are said to have been kidnapped around the Onne estuary.
Reports reveal that the incident happened yesterday, when some unsuspecting tourists set off by boat to Port Harcourt.
The Rivers State Police Command verified the incident today.
The Public Relations Officer for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that the boat carried 20 passengers.
“Yes the O.C Marine informed me that a boat carrying 20 passengers from Bonny to Onne was intercepted by daredevil sea pirates along the Onne River where they were robbed before 7 of them were abducted and taken to an unknown destination,” she added.
It is unclear whether the seven kidnapping victims were purposefully targeted or picked up at random.
However, the Rivers State Police Command stated that they are investigating and will offer additional information as appropriate.
