Scott Adkins’ new action movie has made a big splash since arriving on Netflix, but his character couldn’t be more different compared to his 2023 role in a $1 billion franchise. One More Shot made its way into Netflix’s top 10 trending movies just days after arriving, proving its popularity despite some mixed reviews. Adkins played a Navy SEAL attempting to escort a terrorist suspect to Washington and has to fight off a group of mercenaries in the process. Alongside its high-stakes action, One More Shot reunited Michael Jai White with Adkins after Undisputed II: Last Man Standing.

While One More Shot offers a lot of explosive scenes and some strong performances, Adkins’ character in particular stands out considering how different it is from his previous role. Adkins is no stranger to action movies, with the majority of his big roles coming in the genre, but while One More Shot is more of what the actor is used to, it is a complete flip on his 2023 performance. Despite not having a massive role, Adkins’ involvement last year with a $1 billion franchise allowed him to play a memorable character that is unrecognizable compared to One More Shot.

Adkins’ John Wick Villain Couldn’t Be More Different From His Central Role In One More Shot

One More Shot presented Adkins with the chance to play an action hero after his villainous role in John Wick 4. Adkins was a part of John Wick 4‘s record-breaking box office, playing one of the film’s several antagonists, Killa Harkan. The campy and cartoonish villain was certainly a highlight of the film, with Adkins nailing his role as the German mob boss. The actor was desperate to be part of the franchise, and Adkins’ John Wick 4 role was worth the wait, as he proved to be one of the film’s best characters despite his limited screen time.

His performance as Killa may have been great, but it couldn’t have been any more different to his character in One More Shot. Unlike Killa, Adkins’ Jake Harris is a much more straightforward character, resembling a typical action hero. He is a driven and determined soldier, eager to complete his mission and prevent any innocent lives from being taken. Both characters are capable fighters, but while Harris uses this to protect his country, Killa uses his combat skills for his own selfish reasons, showcasing how wildly different Adkins’ last two performances are from one another.

Adkins’ Upcoming Action Film Has A Lot Of John Wick Similarities

With Adkins set to continue his involvement in the action genre, his next movie looks to give him his own John Wick role. Many films have tried to replicate the John Wick formula, and Adkins’ next movie is no exception. According to Signature Entertainment, Adkins’ upcoming movie, Take Cover, will follow a retired hitman who becomes a target himself. This sounds like an incredibly similar premise to the first John Wick film, and while it may have some different selling points, Take Cover provides Adkins with the chance to play a John Wick-like hero, rather than a villain.
