Stakeholders seek unified efforts on humanitarian interventions

The National President, Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, has called for unified efforts to channel humanitarian interventions in disaster regions to those most in need.
He stated this, yesterday, at a pre-event press briefing to kick start activities marking the 2024 World Red Cross Day.
He said: “In a world where crises and conflicts continue to unfold with overwhelming personal burdens, it is easy to feel apathetic against volunteering for humanity.
“Yet, we stand here today as a testament to the spirit of human capacity for compassion, kindness and generosity. We are the messengers of hope, the beacons of light in the darkest moment.”
Noting the importance of the theme of this year’s celebration, ‘Keeping Humanity Alive’, which he said resonates deeply with countless lives touched, Adeaga said volunteers and humanitarian workers remain beacons of light in a crisis inflicted world.
He added: “We have seen humanity at its most vulnerable, despairing and yet most resilient state and as we celebrate the World Red Cross Day, we honour the unsung heroes, volunteers, staff and Red Cross spirit.
“We recognise the tiredness efforts, the selfless acts and unwavering dedication to our shared visions.
“We most humbly remember those who have paid the supreme price in active service; may their souls rest in peace.”
The Communications Coordinator, International Committee of the Red Cross, (ICRC), Nigeria Office, Qusai Alazroni, pointed out that every May 8 is set aside globally as the international day of the Red Cross and this year’s commemoration highlights the humanitarian work of volunteers worldwide.
