UPDATE: NFF Unveils Finidi George as Super Eagles Coach

The new Super Eagles coach, Finidi George, was introduced by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday. George was formerly a standout player for Ajax.

Even though Finidi was appointed two weeks prior, the details of his contract weren’t made public until the unveiling ceremony. Finidi was officially signed to a contract by Eagles President Ibrahim Gusau and Sports Minister John Enoh during the ceremony.

The NFF also revealed Finidi’s support group, which included German-based former Shooting Stars player Benjamin James and former Super Eagles teammate Daniel Amokachi.

Mehmet Ozturk will be the analyst, and Chima Onyeike, a personal trainer with background in Greece, Germany, and Russia, will help out as well. Olatunji Baruwa, the keeper trainer, is coming back.

Concurrent with these declarations, there are conjectures regarding the length of Finidi’s agreement. Journalist and football commentator Osasu Obayiuawana made a suggestion that Finidi would head the Super Eagles in their next campaign on a one-year deal.

He wrote on his X handle on Monday, “Wait a minute… @FinidiGeorge_FG was only given a ONE YEAR CONTRACT by @thenff to manage the @NGSuperEagles? Is this a joke or what?”

It is expected that the new Super Eagles coach would carry on with the preparations for the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin, which are slated for later in June.
