Two suspects wanted over alleged rape and armed robbery have been arrested at Abagana in Anambra State.

Police operatives attached to Abagana Police Division arrested them on Saturday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikéngà, said, adding that two locally made double barrel guns, one locally made single barrel gun, six live cartridges, and one Qlink motorcycle were recovered from them.

He mentioned the suspects as Chukwuma Diji aka ‘Sympathy’, aged 35, from Obinagu Umudun Village, Abagana, and Micheal Edochie aka ‘Mikel’, 31 years old, of Eziabunabu Umudun, Abagana.

He said the suspects, sometime in 2023, allegedly raped a married woman at Obinagu Abagana and fled the community when security operatives attempted to arrest them.

He further said, “Also on 6th June, 2024, the suspects broke into an apartment belonging to a young lady and raped her and her friend at gunpoint.

The criminals later forced one of the victims to transfer money to his account after they took turns of sex with them. Chukwuma and Micheal both confessed to the crime.”

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation.
