BEDC license not suspended in OSSD – official

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) PLC, Thursday said it would resist, in accordance with the law, any attempt by intruders to tamper with its electricity network.

The Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of BEDC, Mr. Jonathan Lawani, who stated this in Benin City also clarified that its operational license in Ondo South Senatorial District (OSSD) remain intact.

He said: “The Ondo state government has not told us they have suspended BEDC license. If they do, we will respond according to the law.”

Continuing, Lawani said the company’s attention had been drawn to reports that the Ondo state government has granted the operational license to an operator  to provide electricity in OSSD.

The CTO  stated that BEDC has the capacity, the equipment and the manpower for its operations in OSSD and  noted that: “We welcome competition and in our franchise states to make us work better for the people.”

“Our network in OSSD is not for sale and will not be given to any new licensee. We have just rehabilitated the 13 KVA feeder and the 48 distribution sub-stations.”

“This is why electricity consumers in Okitipupa, who are supposed to be on Band C, now have supply for 18 hours,” Lawani  said.
