Does Despicable Me 4 Have A Post-Credits Scene?

  • Despicable Me 4 lacks a post-credits scene, unlike previous films.
  • The Minions entertain audiences with gags during the credits.
  • The franchise tradition of post-credits scenes is not consistent.

The Despicable Me franchise is back, and whether there is a Despicable Me 4 post-credits scene with Gru and the Minions is known. The fourth installment in the main series brings the focus back to Gru (Steve Carell) as an adult with his new family. The introduction of his son, Gru Jr., coincides with him encountering a familiar face from his past, Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell). The sixth Despicable Me movie in order features more exciting action and funny moments to entertain audiences from the moment it starts until it is over.

By the time that Despicable Me 4‘s ending concludes, the adventure for Gru, his family, and the Minions is over. But major Hollywood franchises as successful as Despicable Me have a habit of including more details through the credits. Mid or post-credits scenes can typically be used to tease future installments or deliver one final joke to audiences. Either strategy would work for a series as long-running and comedic as Despicable Me, so audiences questioning the need to sit through Despicable Me 4‘s credits would be rational.

The decision not to give Despicable Me 4 a traditional end-credits scene is standard for this franchise. The movies have rarely utilized a proper post-credits scene to tease future sequels, spinoffs, or prequels. Instead, the Minions jokes and gags are more than what audiences expect to see during the credits of the best Despicable Me movies. The very first film’s credits included the Minions attempting to reach through the screen. Despicable Me 2‘s credits then showed the Minions auditioning for the Minions prequel movie.

Even though Despicable Me 3 did not include any special footage during its stylized credits sequence, Minions showed the Minions following and copying Gru, building off the ending. Minions: The Rise of Gru did include a post-credits scene early on of Gru and the Minions recruiting Nefario and getting his recognizable plane. The gags shown in Despicable Me 4‘s credits are not nearly as important as that moment, with the franchise instead returning to the types of scenes included in the earlier entries.
