Warning! This article contains major spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.
Summary
- Deadpool & Wolverine both survive the movie’s events hand in hand, overcoming certain death.
- Cassandra Nova is destroyed by the Time Ripper explosion, meeting an explosive end.
- Several characters, including Johnny Storm, Toad, Psylocke, and Azazel, are killed in the action-packed film.
Deadpool & Wolverine closes the book on the Marvel films that exist outside the MCU, with plenty of characters meeting a fatal end. Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool originally appeared in 2009 as part of the Fox X-Men universe, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Since then, the character grew to lead his own franchise, which remained under Fox until the brand was purchased in 2019 by Disney. Now, Deadpool & Wolverine completes Deadpool’s trilogy, and connects the timelines with the MCU’s Sacred Timeline.
However, this means that there were a lot of loose ends to cover, and the movie spends a considerable portion of its runtime reintroducing characters from not just the Fox X-Men films, but many of the Marvel movies that were made prior to the MCU. Despite these characters having brief and poignant appearances, many did not survive Deadpool & Wolverine. But it did add to the action of the movie, and obtaining that all-important R-rating.

Deadpool & Wolverine Both Survive The Events Of The Movie
And They Did It Hand In Hand
The titular heroes of the film were anticipated to potentially die in Deadpool & Wolverine, but despite their noble sacrifice, they both survive. Deadpool and Wolverine may be on the older end of the scale for superheroes from the MCU, but that hasn’t slowed either character’s healing factor. While they walked toward an almost certain death to stop the Time Ripper, when both heroes took the force of the matter and anti-matter explosions together, they were able to withstand the worst of the damage by sharing the load.
Cassandra Nova Is Destroyed By The Time Ripper Explosion
The Villain Of The Film Met An Explosive End
However, Cassandra Nova did not get nearly so lucky. While Cassandra was clearly more durable than the average hero, the explosive power of the Time Ripper was reversed thanks to Deadpool and Wolverine’s heroic efforts. As the person trying to wield that power, Cassandra ended up taking the force of the explosion and was atomized in an extraordinary explosion that had the power to literally dismantle entire timelines.
Johnny Storm Is Killed Brutally By Cassandra Nova
No More Flame On
Possibly the greatest loss of the entire film was Johnny Storm, played by none other than Chris Evans. After being expelled into the void, the Fantastic Four star became an integral part of the rebellion fighting against tyrants like Cassandra Nova. After evading her for an undefined period of time, Johnny decides to put his neck on the line when Deadpool and Wolverine turn up in the void, but that was evidently a mistake on his end. When Deadpool runs his mouth to Cassandra about what Johnny may or may not have said about her, she chooses to brutally strip the hero of his skin, immediately killing him.
Toad, Psylocke, Azazel & The Rest Of Cassandra’s Crew Get Slaughtered
The Henchmen Were Goners From The Start
However, it does lead to the rest of the small rebel force storming Cassandra’s lair and decimating her crew. With former villains like Toad, Psylocke, and Azazel among the intimidating forces led by Cassandra, her army was nothing to be sniffed at. But, when the heroes band together, with the help of a motivated Wolverine and Deadpool, they make short work of the entire crew. When Deadpool and Wolverine make their leap back to Wade’s universe, the bodies of all these villains can be seen littered around the Ant-Man corpse that Cassandra calls home.

Who Plays Lady Deadpool In Deadpool & Wolverine?
After months of speculation, Lady Deadpoolโs identity in Deadpool & Wolverine has been revealed, and itโs even more perfect than we thought.
Blade, Elektra, And Gambit’s Fates Are Unknown
The Heroes Fates Are Left Ambiguous
However, while Deadpool and Wolverine manage to escape the void, Blade, Elektra, Gambit and X-23 remain, with a presumably frustrated Cassandra. Cassandra was more than powerful enough to deal with the heroes, but what happens to them is not explicitly shown. The only hero in that group to return in the film’s final scene is X-23, who joins Wolverine and Deadpool for a gathering with all their closest loved ones.
Pyro Is Killed By Cassandra Nova After Double-Crossing Her
Another Firestarter Put Out By Nova
One individual who’s fate is not left hanging in the balance was Pyro. Pyro was working alongside Paradox at the TVA, and he double-crossed Cassandra, shooting her while she was restrained by Deadpool. He hoped to rid Deadpool and Wolverine of any means to get back to their timeline, but of course, Cassandra was never going to be taken down as easily as being shot at with a regular gun. In response, Cassandra murdered Pyro brutally just as she stepped into Deadpool’s timeline, and she then confronts Paradox herself.
Juggernaut Is Brought Down By X-23
But Deadpool And Wolverine Really Needed His Helmet
However, for Pyro to even get a chance to fire a bullet at Cassandra, he needed her powers to be constrained. That is where Juggernaut’s helmet came in. A powerful headpiece capable of keeping mind-reading mutants out of his head, which was able to be used to keep Cassandra’s powers confined to her own head. Getting Juggernaut’s helmet was no easy feat, but X-23 was able to make short work of the powerful mutant and take his head clear off his shoulders. This freed up the helmet for Deadpool and Wolverine to try and trap Cassandra.
Nicepool Dies Because He Doesn’t Have A Healing Factor
Nice Enough To Take A Barrage Of Bullets
Deadpool & Wolverine also introduced the Deadpool Corps. A group of variants of Deadpool, consisting of everything from Kidpool, to Lady Deadpool, and even Dogpool. However, one variant was never a part of the corps, and it may have been down to his tragic lack of a healing factor. Deadpool used the aptly named, Nicepool’s body as a shield as he tried to evade the onslaught of bullets from the variants. This is also the unfortunate moment that Deadpool learns Nicepool never had a healing factor, and he dies, riddled with bullets, but at least he still had his perfect hair and face.

Deadpool & Wolverine is the MCU’s first R-rated movie, but just how much does the movie earn its rating and is it even slightly family-friendly?
Sabretooth Is Beheaded Swiftly By Wolverine
Sabretooth Was No Match For Wolverine
While Sabretooth was revealed in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailers, with a potential battle between the monstrous villain and Wolverine, the actual fight was very brief. Wolverine appeared to be just as capable as ever, while Sabretooth had clearly aged and become less intimidating. As the pair ran toward each other to fight, Wolverine swiftly sliced through the neck of the Sabretooth, leaving his head just barely hanging on to his body. After this, Deadpool wielded the disembodied head to warn off the others.
The TVA Suffered Major Losses At Deadpool’s Hands
But It Did Result In An Epic Dance Number
Early in Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool faces off against a formidable group of TVA agents. However, Deadpool is never one to go quietly, and he manages to obliterate the entire army while dancing to NSYNC’s iconic pop classic, “Bye Bye Bye.” He also manages to fight them with a pretty creative arsenal of adamantium weapons, the bones of the deceased Logan from 2017’s Logan. This scene is potentially one of the best showcases of Deadpool & Wolverine’s sense of humor, action, and the tone of the film, which defines the entire film.
