I knew that 2024 could be a big year for Glen Powell, but I didn’t expect the recent Family Guy casting news from San Diego Comic-Con. This year has already been exciting when it comes to Glen Powell movies and it’s only half over. At the start of the year, his 2023 rom-com Anyone But You became a hit with viewers when it was released for streaming on Netflix. He was also nominated for The Comedy Star of the Year at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards and got inducted into the Austin Film Society’s Texas Film Hall of Fame.

On top of that, his movie Twisters has done exceptionally well at the box office, grossing $173.36 million as of the date of publication (via Box Office Mojo). The number continues to grow every day. Considering I’ve been a fan of Powell since Scream Queens, it’s amazing to see him getting the recognition as an actor that he deserves. Despite all that, I definitely did not have “Glen Powell gets cast in Family Guy” on my 2024 bingo card.

Powell’s recent successes have leaned toward feature-length films, so the TV announcement at SDCC 2024 took me by surprise.

Still, the revelation isn’t shocking, despite being unexpected, because Powell displayed his comedic chops all the way back in Scream Queens. Additionally, he previously voiced the character Kwyatt in season 7 of Rick & Morty, which makes him experienced in the genre of adult animated TV shows. The Family Guy role proves that casting directors are recognizing the actor’s versatility. It also proves that 2024 is Glen Powell’s year.

The Top Gun episode could prove to be one of Family Guy’s funniest spoof episodes, proving that Glen Powell has already created a legacy through his movies. This episode will be even better because the Halloween episode will fall between Family Guy seasons 22 and 23. With such close proximity, Powell’s role in the show will still be on fans’ minds, increasing the comedic impact.
