No Security Operative Killed In Aba Attack — Abia Govt

The Abia State government has dismissed reports of casualties among security personnel following a gun battle with unidentified gunmen in Aba on Monday.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, clarified during a press briefing on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Umuahia.

According to Kanu, armed criminals in three vehicles engaged security operatives at Umuode Tonimas Junction and later Umuojima in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area. One of the assailants was killed, while others escaped with injuries.

“In the ensuing gunfight the criminals were overwhelmed by the superior gun power of the security operatives and in the process, one of them was neutralized.

“The other criminals escaped with varying degrees of bullet wounds in one of their getaway vehicles a Lexus SUV. We were able to confirm that no security operatives were killed during the attack,” Okey said.

He further revealed that the government had received intelligence about planned attacks and reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens. He urged residents to be vigilant and report suspicious activities.

The state government condemned the actions of the criminals and vowed to take decisive steps to curb criminal activities in the state.

“The government of the state has no tolerance for criminal behaviour, especially actions that could disrupt the peace of the state and undermine the progress that the government has achieved in the last 13 months,” he stated.
