Okonkwo Has No Business In Politics, Enugu LP Chair Speaks On Obi’s Attack

The former spokesman of Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council, Mr Kenneth Okonkwo, is a non-issue, hence his outburst on Mr Peter Obi is of no effect.

The Chairman of Labour Party in Enugu State, Barr Casmir Agbo, stated this in Enugu on Monday while reacting to the resignation of Okonkwo from LP.

Okonkwo, a veteran actor and lawyer, had made news headlines a few days ago when he announced his resignation from LP, blaming Mr Obi, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election, as being the cause of his leaving the party.

Okonkwo had alleged that Obi lacked the capacity to protect the mandate given to him by Nigerian voters during the poll. Okonkwo also claimed that Obi was supporting an executive of the party whose tenure had expired.

Agbo, in an interview, said Mr Okonkwo has no election value, hence should not be taken seriously.

Quoting him, “Kenneth Okonkwo is an actor, and has no business in politics. He is not known in his local government as a strong LP member. We are from the same Nsukka LGA. Let him go to his Nkpunano ward and play politics; and not Abuja politics.

“During our campaign during the 2023 polls, Okonkwo solely was praising Obi, without mentioning our state guber candidate. Kenneth Okonkwo has put himself in a mess.”

Agbo questioned Okonkwo’s claims that Obi could not protect the mandate given to him by the voters.

He said, “Obi wouldn’t have asked his massive supporters to take to the street. The only option was the court, which he did. Okonkwo and others leaving LP do so because they couldn’t get what they wanted. LP has its manifesto, which is ‘from consumption to production’.”

On whether LP has factions, Agbo said there were divergent views, which are not factions, adding that “the only leadership of LP recognized by INEC is the Julius Abure-led executive”. He advised the media to stop hyping factionalisation in LP where there is none.
