Sokoto To Embrace Early Grade Reading Program

As part of efforts to enhance literacy skills among school children, Sokoto has been selected among other states to implement the Early Grade Reading (EGR) program.

The executive chairman of Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB ,Alhaji Umar Nagwari Tambuwal disclosed this during the inauguration of the technical committee on Tuesday in Sokoto

Nagwari said the initiative is aimed at equipping pupils with reading skills from an early age.

โ€œThe program is targeting pupils of lower primary school (Primary 1 and 2)โ€

He added that his board will provide all necessary support for the success of the program

The executive chairman however used the medium to call on education secretaries in the state on the need to make sure that their teachers are well equipped and up to date for proper learning to take place

While speaking at the Inauguration of the Early Grade Reading technical committee, the Head of Service of the state, Suleiman S.Fulani Amadu, commended the program as a welcome development and advised that it should be extended to all 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.

Fulani urged the selected participants to demonstrate dedication and perseverance in pursuit of the programโ€™s goals.

He thanked the Governor of the State for his pivotal contribution to the programโ€™s establishment, acknowledging his exemplary leadership and commitment to driving positive change in the state.

The technical committee which is headed by Mamuda Ahmed Barade has Alh. Muhammad Tukur Alkali as patron, Junaidu Umar sardaunan Jabo,Rabi Muhammad Gwadabawa,Ahmad Rabiu Umar and Musa Muhammad Bello among others.

In her address Hajiya Rabi Muhammad Gwadabawa, Director of Mobilization at SUBEB and member of the technical committee, reiterated the programโ€™s inclusivity, stating that it will not leave anyone behind.

Gwadabawa said the program is targeting 100 schools with 40 percent of the school with in the city while 60 percent from the rural areas
