Twisters Is Returning To 4DX Theaters Soon

Twisters is now set to return to the 4DX format. 4DX screenings are a format wherein IMAX-level 3D is combined with a sensory experience, allowing seats to vibrate and water to be splashed at opportune times during a movie for an immersive experience. A standalone follow-up to the 1996 film Twister, the Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones-starring action movie Twisters has been successful in its run so far. Twisters‘ reviews are also fairly positive, with audiences and critics alike enjoying the film.

Now, Regal Movies has announced the return of Twisters to 4DX.

Using a pun on “this ain’t our first rodeo,” the theater chain posted “This ain’t our first tornadeo,” to reveal that Twisters returning to 4DX. The pun is also a fun reference to a key scene wherein a tornado breaks out during a rodeo. Along with the announcement, Regal posted a video that included a series of social media posts urging Regal to return Twisters to the format. Regal notes that “Twisters will return to 4DX soon.” A date is not given when it will return to the format, or for how long it will stay in 4DX cinemas.

This Move Further Highlights Twisters’ Box Office Reign

Twisters Already Set A 4DX Record

While exciting for viewers hoping to catch Twisters in this novelty format, Regal’s move to return Twisters to 4DX is not entirely surprising given the film’s track record. During its opening weekend in 4DX, Twisters set a record for the highest-grossing opening ever in the 4DX format. The film brought in $2.1 million from 4DX ticket sales, breaking the previous record by The Super Mario Bros. Movie. This box office total alone showed a high demand for the format, which was only further highlighted by fans urging that Regal bring back the film.

In addition to the 4DX record, Twisters is performing well overall at the box office. At the time of writing, the film has grossed $220.7 million worldwide after just two weekends in wide release. The movie has an exorbitant budget, costing an estimated $200 million, meaning that the film will need around $400-$500 million to make back its budget. Still, given how much time it likely has left in theaters, Twisters is well on track to pass this milestone.

Twisters‘ return to the 4DX format is further evidence of how dominant the film is at the box office this summer. Twisters is not just any high-grossing film, but one that is seen as an event movie that should be experienced in IMAX or better. Once Twisters returns to the 4DX format, its box office could be reignited once again, propelling Twisters into further success.
