Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 has officially cast its Tyson. During the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, Screen Rant learned from book series author Rick Riordan himself that Daniel Diemer will play the cyclops Tyson in the show’s highly anticipated sophomore outing. One of 2023’s biggest Disney+ releases, the eight-episode Percy Jackson show chronicled the events of Riordan’s first novel in the series, The Lightning Thief. As in the source material, the story centers on the titular demigod (Walker Scobell), who discovers that the Greek god Poseidon is, in fact, his long-absent father.


After Zeus’ thunderbolt is stolen, tensions run high and Percy finds himself at the center of the conspiracy. As he tries to navigate life at Camp Half-Blood, the training ground for demigods, he realizes that he can’t avoid his destiny any longer. Alongside his soon-to-be-friends Grover (Aryan Simhadri), a satyr, and Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries), a daughter of Athena, Percy goes on a cross-country journey to find Zeus’ missing bolt. Percy Jackson season 1’s ending reveals that the theft was all a ploy to stir up a war between Olympus’ most powerful gods.

Tyson Plays A Key Role In Sea Of Monsters


The son of Poseidon (Toby Stephens) and an unnamed nymph, Tyson is Percy Jackson’s half-brother — and a cyclops. Without a home for most of his life, Tyson lived on the streets of New York City, evading monsters like the Sphinx. By a twist of fate, Tyson is discovered by the heads of Meriwether College Prep, who make him part of their misguided program to introduce students to unhoused youth. Thankfully, Tyson meets his half-brother, Percy, at school and the two become friends. Percy stands up to Tyson’s bullies — until the bullies are revealed to be giants.

Once at Camp Half Blood, Tyson is “claimed” by Poseidon, cementing him and Percy as half-siblings.


After a dodgeball game with the giants turns destructive, Tyson and Percy are rescued by Annabeth, who brings them to Camp Half Blood. Once there, Tyson is “claimed” by Poseidon, cementing him and Percy as half-siblings. All of this unfolds in the second Percy Jackson book, Sea of Monsters, and Tyson ends up accompanying Percy and Annabeth to the titular waters. Tyson’s presence becomes something of a blessing in disguise when the demigods’ quest lands them on the cyclops Polyphemus’ island. With his friendship with Percy cemented in book two, Tyson appears in the other Percy Jackson novels.

At SDCC, the team behind Percy Jackson announced that Daniel Diemer will play Tyson in the show’s second installment. Although Diemer had one-off roles in series like The Man in the High Castle, his breakout role came in 2019 with The Half of It. Since then, the actor has appeared in hit TV series like Netflix’s The Midnight Club and Hulu’s Under the Bridge. By video message, Riordan told SDCC attendees that Diemer “bring[s] a whole new dimension to Tyson” through his talent and enthusiasm. Plus, Diemer being 6’4” definitely lends itself to Tyson’s character.
