2 Of Netflixs Biggest K-Dramas Of All Time Are Back, So Where Is All Of Us Are Dead?

Summary

  • Sweet Home and Squid Game have returned or are about to, but All Of Us Are Dead 2 hasn’t been released yet.
  • Fans have been eagerly waiting for season 2 of All Of Us Are Dead for over two years now.
  • All Of Us Are Dead may only return in early 2025, following the trend set by Sweet Home and Squid Game.

Sweet Home and Squid Game, two of Netflixโ€™s flagship original K-dramas, have returned or are about to, raising the question of what is happening with All of Us Are Dead. Netflixโ€™s history with original K-dramas begins in 2019 with the release of Love Alarm, a romantic comedy starring Song Kang. Love Alarm would be the first of many of original Korean series produced by Netflix in collaboration with local studios, a strategy that was proved successful a year later with the premiere of Sweet Home. The monster K-drama was the first Korean show to enter Netflixโ€™s global Top 10.

Sweet Homeโ€™s success on Netflix was impressive, but it was only a taste of what was to come. Squid Game, starring Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-gun alongside a strong ensemble cast, took the world by storm and became Netflixโ€™s biggest show of all time. Between Sweet Homeโ€™s record-breaking debut and Squid Gameโ€™s global phenomenon status, it was no surprise that Netflix continued to develop original Korean webseries. A few months after Squid Game, in January 2022, the streamer released All of Us Are Dead. However, over two years later, All of Us Are Dead 2 still doesnโ€™t have a release date.

Sweet Home & Squid Gameโ€™s Returns Make The Wait For All Of Us Are Dead 2 Worse

Sweet Home Concluded With Season 3, Squid Game Returns In December

Sweet Home has already released two seasons since All of Us Are Dead premiered, which helps us put in perspective how long it has been since the zombie K-drama debuted. Sweet Home premiered in December 2020, after which those who wanted to see more of Song Kangโ€™s character had to wait for three years. However, once Sweet Home returned in December 2023, the wait for season 3 was much shorter. The final two seasons of the monster series were filmed back to back, with Sweet Home 3 releasing July 19, 2024.

Netflixโ€™s original K-dramas have become synonymous with big-budget series that have high production value and feature great performances.

Squid Game went through something similar. The smash hit premiered on September 17, 2021, and will now return for a second season on December 26, 2024. Additionally, Squid Game has already been renewed for a third and final season, which will premiere in 2025. Now that two of Netflixโ€™s first global K-drama hits have officially returned โ€“ one has even concluded already โ€“ it is frustrating that there have been so few updates on All of Us Are Deadโ€™s future. The zombie series was renewed a couple of months after it premiered, yet it has not received a release date yet.

Sweet Home, Squid Game, & All Of Us Are Dead Are Netflixโ€™s Biggest Original K-Dramas

Netflix Has Found Success With Its Original Korean Webseries

Netflixโ€™s K-drama catalog is impressive and includes both original shows and licensed series. It can be difficult to compare the success of broadcast shows that are distributed globally by Netflix like Crash Landing on Your or Queen of Tears to that of the webseries like Squid Game and Sweet Home since they have very different formats. Netflixโ€™s non-original K-dramas usually release one or two episodes per week according to their local broadcast schedule, whereas webseries release all episodes at once like most Netflix originals. Still, the platform has had hits on both fronts.

All of Us Are Dead
season 2 was announced on June 6, 2022.

Netflixโ€™s original K-dramas have become synonymous with big-budget series that have high production value and feature great performances. Shows like Squid Game, Sweet Home, and All of Us Are Dead usually include impressive sets and several VFX shots that you will not always find a more traditional K-drama, which is why they stand out. Not every Netflix Korean webseries has been a hit, but the streamerโ€™s output has been quite consistent. All of Us Are Dead benefited from Netflixโ€™s strong momentum following Sweet Home and Squid Game and is now one of their biggest K-dramas.

When Will All Of Us Are Dead Season 2 Premiere?

All Of Us Are Dead Season 2 Wonโ€™t Arrive In 2024

Using Sweet Home and Squid Game as references, I assume All of Us Are Dead season 2 will be released at the beginning of 2025. This would mark a three-year wait for the second season, which is exactly what Sweet Home and Squid Game experienced. I also predict that All of Us Are Dead season 3 will eventually be confirmed too, as such a long wait for the show to return suggests that two seasons may be in production at the same time. This is pure speculation, though, as Netflix has not confirmed when All of Us Are Dead will return.

So far, the only piece of promotional material for All of Us Are Dead 2 is a video announcing the showโ€™s renewal. It features the showโ€™s lead actors dressed as their characters โ€“ Cheong-san, On-jo, Nam-ra, and Su-hyeok โ€“ as they confirm that All of Us Are Dead will continue. Regardless of when it returns, it is safe to say All of Us Are Dead season 2 has all the ingredients to be a hit for Netflix considering all the anticipation that has been built over the last two years.
