Ted Lasso season 4 looks more viable than ever after its most promising update yet, which opens the door for the series’ lingering questions to finally be answered. Three Ted Lasso stars have signed a deal to return to the series, including Rebecca Welton’s Hannah Waddingham, Roy Kent’s Brett Goldstein, and Leslie Higgins’ Jeremy Swift. Other stars are expected to be reached out to as season 4 awaits an official greenlight before moving forward.
The Ted Lasso season 3 ending was placed in a difficult position as it was treated like a series finale, with many of the major story arcs coming to an end, while being referred to by Apple TV+ as a season finale. The story of the titular Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) had a mostly satisfying conclusion, but there was still room for a direct continuation or spinoff series, especially with some of the setup and lack of resolution in the season 3 finale. Ted Lasso season 4’s story can address and explore these unanswered questions while also introducing new storylines.
7 Will Ted And His Wife Get Back Together?
There Were Promising Signs In Season 3
Ted originally left Kansas and went to England, largely because of the difficulties he and his wife, Michelle (Andrea Anders), were having. Despite no longer being together and being on different continents for most of the series, Ted’s personal growth and other promising factors made it seem like he and Michelle might be able to rekindle their relationship. That possibility seemed all the more likely when Ted left England and returned to Kansas, where they will continue raising their son Henry (Gus Turner) together.
Ted worked through the issues that led to their marital problems in the first place, and by returning to Kansas, he has shown that he is prioritizing his family above all else, all of which bodes well for Ted and Michelle officially being together again in
Ted Lasso
season 4.
It is left ambiguous whether Ted and Michelle will get back together, or if they will simply co-parent Henry and go on to lead separate personal lives. Michelle’s boyfriend, Dr. Jacob (Mike O’Gorman) no longer seemed to be a part of her life. Ted worked through the issues that led to their marital problems in the first place, and by returning to Kansas, he has shown that he is prioritizing his family above all else, all of which bodes well for Ted and Michelle officially being together again in Ted Lasso season 4.
6 Will AFC Richmond Get A Women’s Team?
Rebecca & Keeley Are Already Planning This
One of the biggest teases in the Ted Lasso season 3 finale was when Rebecca and Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) talked about starting an AFC Richmond women’s team. This has a great deal of potential and could be followed up on in Ted Lasso season 4 or even in its own spinoff series. Waddingham and Swift being two of the three actors to have their contracts picked up for season 4 means the women’s team storyline will likely continue there instead of in a separate spinoff.
Rebecca and Keeley’s friendship was one of the best elements of Ted Lasso, and is a relationship that can easily remain central to the overarching story as they work on developing an AFC Richmond women’s team. Focusing on the new women’s team could be a way of season 4 distinguishing itself from the previous seasons as the series enters a new era. Rebecca, Keeley, and Leslie have plenty of experience, drive, and connections that will make the women’s team a reality.
5 How Will AFC Richmond Fare Without Ted?
He Was The Glue That Held The Team Together
Despite Ted’s departure, AFC Richmond was left in good hands with Roy, Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt), and Nathan Shelley (Nick Mohammed) coaching the team. The team still includes many of its best players as well, including Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), Isaac McAdoo (Kola Bokinni), and Colin Hughes (Billy Harris). While they are a strong team on many fronts, Ted was the glue that held the team together and inspired them to achieve the seemingly impossible.
Season 4 can reveal how the team fares without Ted, as there will surely be obstacles that they need to navigate without him. One challenge may be among the coaching staff, as Roy, Coach Beard, and Nate were all close to Ted in different ways, but do not share the same depth of connection and camaraderie with each other. Their dynamic as a trio needs further development, with season 4 exploring their relationship and how the team confronts its highs and lows without Ted.
4 Does Keeley Get Back Together With Roy Or Jaime?
She Chose Neither Of Them In The Season 3 Finale
The love triangle between Keeley, Roy, and Jamie ended with Keeley choosing herself instead of choosing Roy or Jamie. Keeley can continue to stand by this choice, instead focusing more on her friendship with Rebecca and launching the AFC Richmond women’s team. Nevertheless, Keeley, Roy, and Jamie all still being in the series makes it likely that the characters’ past relationships will be revisited, and potentially rekindled as well.
Keeley was in a relationship with Jack (Jodi Balfour) for much of season 3 before the two eventually broke up.
Roy being the manager of the AFC Richmond men’s team and Jamie being one of its star players provides professional reasons for the characters to cross paths with each other, which could lead to more personal development. There was speculation about Keeley, Roy, and Jamie becoming a throuple, which could be explored in season 4. More romance between Keeley and Roy or Jamie is a possibility as long as all three characters remain central to the story.
3 Will Ted Ever Return To England And To AFC Richmond?
Ted Lasso Season 4 Would Be Strange Without Ted
There was a sense of finality when Ted left England and AFC Richmond behind, which was further emphasized by his absence at Coach Beard’s wedding. Ted’s decision to leave and return home to his family felt earned, but it would also be strange if he never returned to at least visit his close friends. Season 4 can address this by revealing whether Ted ever returns to England, or if he ever has any desire to rejoin AFC Richmond.
Rejoining the team seems highly unlikely and could potentially undermine the culmination of his arc in season 3. A simple visit to England is more feasible and would be an effective way to mostly focus on new storylines while still keeping Ted as part of the series. Ted seeing how things have changed since he left can help communicate changes that have transpired in certain characters’ lives since they were last seen in season 3, helping to bridge the two seasons.
2 What Will Trent Do Following His Book’s Success?
Trent Should Still Be Part Of The Series
While Trent Crimm (James Lance) does not have to be in Ted Lasso season 4, not including him would be a disservice to his character. Trent’s journey from being an abrasive critic to an inspired supporter who chronicled the team’s story in his book, The Richmond Way, is one of Ted Lasso‘s best character arcs. Now that The Richmond Way is published and a bestseller, it is time for Trent to begin a new personal and professional adventure.
Trent’s book was originally titled
The Lasso Way
before Trent took Ted’s suggestion and renamed it
The Richmond Way
.
Without asking questions at press conferences or shadowing the team for his book, including him on a regular basis in season 4 may be challenging, but he should definitely make an appearance or be referenced given his importance in the previous seasons. He could write a piece that would be beneficial to the creation of the AFC Richmond women’s team. It would also be nice to see him still being friends with Colin after Trent supported him a great deal in season 3.
1 What Kinds Of New Challenges Will Rebecca Face As A Mother?
Being A Parent Will Be New Territory For Her
Despite Rebecca’s skepticism when a psychic told her she would become a mother, this happened by the end of Ted Lasso season 3. Rebecca unexpectedly crossed paths with the mysterious Dutch man (Matteo van der Grijn) she spent a night with in Amsterdam, with the two of them going on to have a relationship. It turns out that the man has a daughter, with Rebecca becoming the girl’s mother, a turn of events she never could have foreseen, even with what the psychic told her.
Rebecca is a formidable woman who has navigated many professional and personal challenges throughout her life, but being a parent is different from any challenge Rebecca has faced yet. Building the AFC Richmond women’s team could have additional meaning for Rebecca, as she wants to create a team through which her own daughter can see herself represented. Rebecca as a mom will present a somewhat different trajectory for the character in Ted Lasso season 4.
