Aerosmith Bids Farewell to Touring After Steven Tyler’s Vocal Injury: A Heartfelt Goodbye

Aerosmith, the legendary rock band that has been a staple in the music industry for over five decades, has announced its retirement from touring following a serious vocal injury suffered by lead singer Steven Tyler. The news, which has left fans heartbroken, marks the end of an era for a band that has significantly shaped rock ‘n’ roll history.

The announcement was made on the band’s official social media accounts on Friday, where they detailed the struggles Tyler has faced with his voice. The statement began with a nostalgic reflection on the band’s beginnings in 1970 Boston, where Tyler, Joe Perry, Ray Tabano, Tom Hamilton, and Joey Kramer first came together. Brad Whitford replaced Tabano shortly after the band’s formation. Over the years, Aerosmith has earned four Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

The statement from the band read: “It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark caught flame and has been burning for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since the beginning and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history.”

Expressing their gratitude, the band continued, “It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours. In every club, on every massive tour, and at moments grand and private, you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives. We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing.”

Addressing the current state of Tyler’s health, the band explained, “As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision — as a band of brothers — to retire from the touring stage.”

The announcement also conveyed deep appreciation for their fans, “We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time. Grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team, and the thousands of talented people who’ve made our historic runs possible. A final thank you to you – the best fans on planet Earth. Tyler’s injury, a fractured larynx sustained in 2023, had already caused the band to pause their Peace Out farewell tour. Despite his efforts and the support of top medical professionals, Tyler’s voice did not fully recover, leading to this difficult decision.

In May 2023, Aerosmith had announced their farewell tour, intended to give fans one last opportunity to experience the band’s electrifying live performances. Guitarist Joe Perry had mentioned the members’ ages, with all being in their early to mid-70s, as a significant factor in their decision to step back from touring.
