All 8 Sweet Home Season 1 Characters Who Are Still Alive After Season 2

Seven characters from season 1 of Sweet Home were still alive in season 2. Given the nature of the show, things could always change in the upcoming season. Set in an apocalyptic world, Sweet Home is a series revolving around monsters, humans, and half-monsters, also known as neohumans. It’s a dangerous world to live in, and unsurprisingly, people die frequently. Many beloved characters meet tragic ends in seasons 1 and 2 of Sweet Home. However, there were still some characters from the beginning of the show who are still alive and appeared in season 3.

Sweet Home season 2’s new characters are introduced amidst the time jump. However, some members of the original Green Home group still survive until the end of the season, too. Unfortunately, several season 1 characters, including fan favorites, meet their demise in shocking and gut-wrenching twists. Nevertheless, by the end of season 2, many of the main characters are still alive and well, which gave fans something to look forward to in season 3, which saw the end of the story.

8 Cha Jin-Ok

Jin-Ok Spends Season 2 Caring For Yeong-su

Jin-Ok spends most of the early episodes of season 2 comforting the surviving children from Green Home, Su-yeong, and Yeong-su. When Su-yeong is killed, Jin-Ok affectionately ties a scarf around the young girl’s neck and attempts to comfort a distraught Yeong-su. The last time Jin-Ok appears on screen in the second season is in her scenes at the church and shelter. Since she didn’t die on screen in season 2, it’s reasonable to assume Jin-Ok survives past the end of the season.

This turned out to be true, but sadly, things did not work out so well for the Sweet Home season 1 fan favorite. Jae-hwan (Lee Joon-woo), Seung-wan (Woo Jung-kook), and Su-yeong (Heo Yul) died in season 2, and while Cha Jin-Ok made it to season 3 while caring for the kids from Green Home, she met an unfair cruel end in season 3. She is still intent on protecting Yeong-su, but this is her undoing as Pyoon Sang-wook ends up killing her when he pieces her with his bladed arm.

7 Kang Seung-Wan

Seung-wan Is Locked Up

Seung-wan flees the Green Home wreckage along with the other survivors. He makes it to safety as he’s spotted among the other survivors at the shelter. It’s unclear what happens to him during the time jump, but in episode 8, he shows symptoms of transforming into a monster – the cut on his hand heals almost instantly. While Kang Seung-Wan was not a sympathetic character, often throwing tantrums when he did not get his way, his descent into becoming a monster led to his eventual demise

He’s tricked and locked into a basement prison by Chief Ji. It’s unclear if he transforms into a monster or dies, and his story ends on a cliffhanger. What happens to Seung-wan was revealed in season 3. While he lived to the end of season 2, he went the way of most of the people from the first season as almost everyone from the Green Home died. For Seung-Wan, his death came when Chief Ji sent him into the basement prison, which is where she kept her son, who had become a monster.

6 Yeong-su

Yeong-su Is Losing Hope After Witnessing So Much Death

With the death of Su-yeong in season 2, Yeong-su is the only remaining child of the original Green Home group. After Su-yeong’s death, Yeong-su has a tearful moment where he exclaims that he won’t leave if she doesn’t come with them. He’s terrified that he will die and that the people around him will turn into monsters, too. Ji-su dies in Sweet Home episode 3 while trying to save Yeong-su.

The aftermath of the deaths has taken a toll on Yeong-su. He’s become ruder, disrespects his elders, and seems to have lost all hope that they will survive. Of all the young characters, he is the one who sees the least hope in the future. That makes it more than ironic that he is the only season 1 character who lives to the end of the series. He ends up as a neohuman in the end, and this means he is mostly immortal and might never grow up unless his return to human form is permanent.

5 Nam Sang-Won

Ui-myeong Has Been San-Won All Along

Yi-kyung’s fiancé was presumed dead at first during season 1. By the end of the season, it’s suspected he is alive and has something to do with the monster outbreak. In season 2, his true identity is revealed. During the confrontation in MH-1’s lab, Ui-myeong shocks Dr. Lim by revealing that he has been Sang-won since season 1 and he gave himself up to experimentation in hopes of curing his monster curse.

However, no matter what the scientist did to his body, the monster couldn’t be removed. He has now embraced his monstrous side and can transfer between host bodies as Ui-myeong. He becomes the main antagonist and villain in the series, and he is the cause of all the death and destruction happening around him. Sang-won goes on to inhabit Sang-wook’s body all the way into season 3, where Sang-wook finally regains control over his body and dies by suicide to end the threat once and for all.

4 Ui-myeong

Ui-myeong Is Possessing Pyeon Sang-Wook’s Body

Sang-wook died at the end of Sweet Home season 1. Therefore, every time he appears on screen, it’s actually Ui-myeong possessing Sang-wook’s body. The plot twist becomes extra shocking with the reveal that Ui-myeong is actually Sang-won, Yi-kyung’s fiancé. The revelation of his true identity is one of the most stunning moments in Sweet Home season 2.

This revelation could also explain how Ah-yi has her powers. Yi-kyung was pregnant, and it’s speculated that her pregnancy was accelerated when she visited him in the lab. It’s very possible that Ah-yi has her powers because Ui-myeong is her father. Ui-myeong was Sang-wook, and he could leap from one body to another at any time he wished. As mentioned, Ui-myeong and Sang-won are pretty much the same person, and when Sang-woook sacrifices himself, it eliminates the evil villains from Sweet Home once and for all.

3 Lee Eun-yu

Eun-yu Is Still Searching For Her Brother

In season 1 of Sweet Home, Eun-yu survives the events of Green Home but has to leave her brother, Eun-hyuk, behind. Eun-yu still has hope that he may be alive. Throughout season 2, she searches for him, even theorizing that he’s protecting her from the shadows. After the surprising reveal at the end of season 2 of Sweet Home that Eun-hyuk is alive, a reunion with her brother seemed extremely likely in the future.

However, it was unclear at that time whether the reunion would be a happy one, given Eun-hyuk’s monstrous transformation, and it leaves doubt about whether he was now a villain. When she finds her brother, she learns he is one of the new neohumans, and he wants nothing to do with his former human family life. By the end of the series, Eun-yu is now also a neohuman, just like her brother, and there are hints that she can control her powers and might be considering a connection with Hyun-su.

2 Cha Hyun-su

Cha Hyun-su’s Goals Are Unclear

Hyun-su returns in Sweet Home season 2, episode 7, after losing a fight to Ui-myeong in episode 3. Over a year has passed, and there is a lot of Hyun-su that the show does not get into about this time so his goals were unclear. It’s revealed that he played a role in raising Yi-kyung’s daughter, and as a result, the two share a strong bond with each other. She appears to trust him, perhaps because of their monster abilities.

At the end of season 2, Hyun-su’s monster self takes over, and he tells Eun-yu that he can fix things. What he meant was unclear, leaving numerous open-ended questions and possibilities for his character in Sweet Home season 3. Of all the characters in Sweet Home, it is Hyun-su who has the biggest character arc. He was ready to die by suicide in season 1, and by the end, he had accepted his role as a “Special Infectee.” He, along with Eun-yu live at the end and might be the future of humanity.

1 Lee Eun-Hyuk

Eun-hyuk Is Now a Monster

Season 2 of Sweet Home reveals that Eun-hyuk survived the Green Home building collapse and has become a monster. His fate is only revealed in the show’s final scene. As Eun-hyuk walks towards the camera, emerging from the wreckage of the Green Home, his strange smile and behavior suggest that he is no longer human. It’s clear that he has gone through a significant change and is now something else entirely.

His monstrous transformation left questions about whether he was set to become a show villain, something fans of the show had to wait until season 3 to find out. It turned out that Lee Do-hyun was actually one of the neohumans, and he wanted nothing to do with his old human life after this, preferring to learn the ways and powers of his new way of life. After Eun-hyuk helps beat Sang-won, he chooses to live among the neohumans and leaves his sister once and for all.
